“It’s okay to make mistakes”

In his current role as the Assistant Principal of the Western Australian Bilingual Program at Primary School at Nguyen Thong campus, as of April this year, Mr. Kerr Michael Andrews has been with our System for 5 years.

Among many other open job opportunities, he chose to stop here to serve Vietnamese education in general and the development of the Western Australian International School System in particular. In this magazine, let’s listen to his sharing about his current job as well as his memories with Vietnamese colleagues during his time at the System.

I consider myself to be hardworking and dependable.

What makes you most proud of your current work?

Most days I feel I’m making a difference in our student’s lives.

Is your teaching philosophy inspired by anyone? What are your top principles in teaching?

I try to be open and honest with students, and let them know it’s okay to make mistakes.

What was the biggest pressure you had to face as Vice-Principal of the MoET Primary Program over these years? How did you manage to overcome it?

The biggest challenge has been dealing with COVID since we returned to school. We just have to take it day by day. Lucky for me I have a great team of teachers and they have been supportive through it all.

When looking back, what is the reason why you decided to stay in Vietnam and stick with this job for a long time?

Love my job and love my family.

During your time working here, what impressed you most about your Vietnamese colleagues?

The Vietnamese staffs always have a friendly disposition and are easy to talk with.

With diverse experiences when living and working in two countries, in your opinion, what are the factors that can contribute to the development of WASS and the whole IEDG?

I think we should fully embrace the idea of “Global citizenship” with our students and our corporate culture.

If you could use one word to describe how you feel about being a part of WASS, what word would you use?

I have watched this school grow for many years, and I am still excited to be a part of that.
